Alberta does not have living wills. Instead, we have personal directives. You may not be able to make decisions if you suffer a serious:
-
injury – like from a car accident
-
illness – like a heart attack or disease

A personal directive is a legal document you make in case you can not make your own personal decisions in the future. A personal directive:
-
is optional and voluntary
-
names the person or people you have picked to make personal decisions for you – a person you name on the personal directive is called an agent
-
makes sure your written instructions are known in case something happens to you
-
only comes into effect if you are found to lack capacity – that means you are not able to make your own decisions

When you make a personal directive, the person or people you pick to be your agent have legal authority to make personal decisions for you. This could be temporary or long term.

Do I need to probate my Dad’s will?
We Can Help U will help you answer this question. The answer is probably not, because Dad left you with no assets or property in his name only. He was living in a long-term care home and had given it all away before he died. But if Dad died suddenly, he had a second wife, you had step brothers and sisters, he had several bank accounts, RRSP’s, investments – then probably yes. Did he even take the time to prepare a will…..maybe not. We Can Help U get the right forms from the right place to answer your questions and move on. We are more than happy to work with you through the death process.

It is a company record-keeping book that contains your original articles of incorporation, annual return minutes and director resolutions, bookkeeper information, bank information, and should be a really handy book to have for any company. The name Minute Book applies to the annual return and the meeting that is held regarding the company activity for the coming year. Shareholders vote for Directors to continue or begin for the upcoming year. Decisions regarding money, investments, moving forward are discussed at the AGM then someone takes the minutes of the meeting (hence the name Minute Book). Every Corporation should have a current minute book. We Can Help U to do that.
